Seen by Mom, 2:11am
My mom hasn't typed in the family chat in eight months. But it says she read this one, 2:11am.
This one goes to a heavy place. If you’d rather not read it tonight, that’s a fine choice — support resources are here.
My mom hasn't typed a word in the family chat in eight months. but she reads everything. i can see it. "seen by Mom" under whatever i send, usually within the minute, even now, even at 2am.
So tonight i tested it. i sent a photo of nothing, the ceiling, no caption. seen by Mom. 2:11am. no one else awake. she's three hundred miles away in the house i grew up in, the one with the bad signal in the kitchen.
We stopped talking after the thing with the will. not a fight exactly. a slow closing of a door. my brother still calls her. i send things to the group because it's not technically not talking to her.
I keep the chat muted so i won't sit here waiting. i'm sitting here waiting.
I sent one more. just "you up?" seen by Mom. 2:14. then the three dots. they came up, stayed, went away. came up again.
I'm still watching them. for the first time in eight months i think she's trying to find the words too.
Did this one stay with you?

Checked Off Before I Answer
There's already a checkmark by my name in the family shift chat. I haven't answered yet, and I don't know if I'm going to.
