Three Thumbs-Up and It Dies
our group chat used to never stop. tonight someone shared an old photo and i just left a thumbs up.
The group chat lit up for the first time in maybe three weeks. One of them shared a photo from back when we all lived ten minutes apart. I watched the little typing dots appear under it, then stop. Appear, stop.
Nobody knew what to say. So we did the thing we do now: a thumbs up, a heart, a haha. Three reactions and the photo just sat there. Conversation over. We used to stay up arguing about nothing in here until our phones got hot.
I could've typed something real. I remember that night. I miss this. When are we all in the same city again. I had it half-written. I deleted it and left a thumbs up like everyone else.
It's not that we fell out. Nobody fell out. We just all quietly agreed a thumbs up is easier than admitting we're not those people anymore, and tonight I agreed too.
Did this one stay with you?

The Group Chat Went Quiet
Our group chat's last message is from March. No fight, no falling out. We just answered slower and slower until answering stopped.
The Pill Organizer, Already Filled

The Navy Dress in Every Album
At a friend's wedding after-party, I go looking for myself in the photographer's preview and find the same navy dress in every one this year.
