The Recipe Card Still Says Two
The dinner box he never canceled still ships for two. I keep cooking the extra portion for someone who won't eat it.
The dinner box still shows up every other Thursday. He set it up in March, back when we were doing the thing where we cooked together three nights a week and called it romantic instead of just Tuesday. Neither of us canceled it after. I don't know if that's an oversight or a decision neither of us wants to be the one to make.
Tonight's box has salmon and a recipe card portioned for two. I've watched the tutorial on halving a recipe. Instead I split it exactly like the card says, onto two plates, and I eat off both of them, switching seats halfway through like that fixes the math.
My roommate asked once why I don't just cancel it, and I said it's cheaper per meal that way, which is true and also not the reason. The reason is that on the days it doesn't come, the apartment feels like a fact instead of an accident. On box days I still get to pretend somebody planned dinner around me.
The account is still under both our names. Changing it to just mine would take four minutes. I keep not doing it, the way you don't touch a bruise to check if it still hurts, except I touch this one every other Thursday, on purpose.
