The Diner Isn't on the List
The diner's gone from the poll and it closes in eleven minutes. I still haven't voted. I don't know if I still fit.
The reunion poll's been open since Tuesday and closes in eleven minutes. Four names have voted already. Mine hasn't, because every time I open it I start typing the real reason and delete it before the second sentence.
The real reason isn't the weekend. I could move the weekend if I wanted to badly enough. The real reason is I don't know if I still fit at that table the way I used to, and there's no box in the poll for that.
Four restaurants to pick from. I scroll past all of them twice before I notice the diner isn't one of the choices anymore, the one with the corner booth we always took without discussing it, six years running. Someone swapped it out for somewhere newer. Nobody mentioned it in the thread.
I type so sorry, can't swing that weekend, work's been insane, and hit send before I can rewrite it into something truer.
The poll closes at midnight either way. They'll pick without me. I keep scrolling the four options like the diner might reappear if I look hard enough, like that would answer the question I never actually asked.
Did this one stay with you?
