Nobody's Counting When I Get Home
i've been parked in my own driveway for an hour, and the first thing that would notice me missing is my bank.
This one goes to a heavy place. If you’d rather not read it tonight, that’s a fine choice — support resources are here.
I've been sitting in the parked car for almost an hour. Engine off. The dome light gave up a long time ago. There's one sodium lamp at the end of the lot doing that low electric hum, the kind you stop hearing and then can't stop hearing.
I'm not doing anything. Not on my phone. I'm just not going in yet.
It used to be that staying out late meant someone noticed. A light left on, a text, are you almost home. Now I could pull out of this spot and drive until the gas light came on, and the only thing that would flag it is the bank, in the morning, as a little notification about a fuel purchase.
That's the part that keeps me in the seat. Not that nobody's waiting up. That the system that would notice me first is my checking account.
Did this one stay with you?
