The invite's still there when I open the calendar to move tomorrow's meetings around. Weekly sync, Tuesdays, 2:00, the little tentative flag it's had since March. The room books itself and cancels itself now, some system on a timer, but the invite itself never resolves. It just sits there every week, pending, waiting on an answer nobody's going to give it.
She left in February. Not fired, not dramatic, just another job, a goodbye email with a gif everyone reacted to for one day. I never removed her from that recurring series. I tell people I've been meaning to clean up my calendar, too many things automated years ago, and that's true of six other invites. Just not this one, not really.
I'm the only one still on the office floor at this hour, moving Wednesday's stand-up an hour later, and I open Tuesday out of habit before I catch myself doing it. Same slot. Same empty room number. I could delete it in four seconds. My cursor sits on the little x for longer than that.
I close the tab instead. Next Tuesday it'll auto-cancel itself again, on schedule, without me. I'll leave the invite exactly where it is, the last thing on this floor still expecting her to show up.
