Her Location Hasn't Moved In Days
Her location's been frozen on the same corner for two days. My thumb hovers over stop sharing and still won't press it.
I still have her on Find My. Not because I need to know where she is. I tell myself it's just a habit I never got around to undoing, like a subscription I keep meaning to cancel.
Her dot's been sitting at the same corner near the pharmacy for two days now, not moving, and I've opened the app for no real reason four times since dinner just to check if it's changed. It hasn't. Her phone's probably dead in a bag somewhere, or left in a coat at work. I know that. I still made up three different stories about that corner before I put the kettle on.
We haven't actually talked in five months. Not a fight, just the slow thing where you both stop being the one who texts first, until neither of you is anyone anymore. I could turn off location sharing in about four taps. I've had the settings screen open before. My thumb sits right on it.
If I turn it off, there's no reason to ever open the app again, and no reason means it's actually over, in the specific way a fight isn't but this is.
So I close the app instead, and leave her exactly where she is, parked on a street I've never been to, still, for now, someone I'm allowed to check on.
Did this one stay with you?

Some things you only do when the house is empty and it's 2am. Her freezer, her handwriting, and the voicemail I've never finished.
He Called Me By Her Name
My father keeps thanking me by my dead mother's name, and I've stopped correcting him. I'm not sure anymore if that's kindness or something I want too.
